    RAINOUT POLICY:
Theatre Under the Stars is an outdoor theatre and in the event of rain, we will provide plastic rain ponchos to the audience (based on availability). Unless the weather is deemed too dangerous to continue, the SHOW WILL GO ON! We suggest you bring coats and/or blankets, insect repellent, and layered clothing, as it can get chilly when the sun goes down. If you are concerned about weather impacting your experience, we suggest you purchase RAIN INSURANCE at the time that you purchase your seats. If you do not have RAIN INSURANCE, there are no refunds and you do not have the ability to re-book for another night. All sales are final.

    RAIN INSURANCE
New for 2012 – RAIN INSURANCE is an optional and additional purchase that provides the ticketholder the ability to exchange their ticket for an upcoming 2012 performance. Here are the details:

    1. You must purchase RAIN INSURANCE on the same day that you purchase your original ticket. Rain Insurance purchased after original purchase date will be considered VOID at the Box Office.
    2. Each RAIN INSURANCE voucher is valid for ONE TICKET
    3. A RAIN INSURANCE voucher costs (this includes all taxes and fees) and it has it's own certificate number.
    4. Each person that wants to come another night must have purchased RAIN INSURANCE (for example, a party of four that wants to come another night needs four RAIN INSURANCE vouchers).
    5. You may exchange your RAIN INSURANCE voucher for a ticket to another future performance up until 8:00PM of the date on your original ticket. For example, "I can't come tonight so I want to use my voucher for next week"
    6. You MUST exchange your voucher PRIOR to 8:00PM by calling the TUTS office at 604-734-1917 or by presenting in-person at the TUTS Box Office.
    7. You must have your original voucher and applicable number.
    8. At the moment you redeem your voucher you must choose a future 2012 performance.
    9. We will do our very best to give you similar seats in your same price range but seating will be based on availability at the time that you redeem your voucher.
    10. A RAIN INSURANCE voucher may be used one time only.
    11. RAIN INSURANCE is just that, insurance, and it is non-refundable whether it is used or not.
    12. It does not have to rain for you to use your RAIN INSURANCE voucher. You can use it at anyone and for any reason – no questions asked.
    13. Don't delay if you need to use your voucher as seat availability becomes more restrictive as the season nears the final performance.

    I Share: Pre-launch Volunteer Extravaganza
    Event on 2012-06-27 19:00:00

Please join us Wednesday, June 27 to celebrate sharing, learn about tools for sharing and strategize a new project set to launch later this fall called I Share.

We're looking for a community-minded team of I Share leaders and volunteers to help this not-for-profit project be successful. Learn about our plans and opportunities to help.

I Share is a signage campaign to promote sharing. Signs, buttons and stickers with the I Share logo let people know you are interested in finding something to share with them, such as:
    - pet care
    - cars or bikes
    - tools
    - office supplies
    - skills
    - vacation homes
    - babysitting
    - work space
You can share just about anything.

I Share is a way to promote the financial, environmental, time and efficiency benefits of sharing while also supporting community building. I Share signs get people connecting with their neighbours and coworkers face-to-face. Imagine that, off-line social networking!

This will be a fun and interactive evening. Donations are welcome. Prototypes of the I Share sign will be handed out. Be one of the first to have one!

    6:45 – Refreshments
7-8 – Introductions, overview of I Share, the world of sharing
8-9 – Exercises, strategies, next steps and opportunities get involved

  • Co.ERASGA presents The World Premiere of COLONIAL

Co.ERASGA presents The World Premiere of COLONIAL
    Event on 2012-10-04 00:00:00
In Colonial, I will return to my native land, the Philippines, to acquire and assemble a group of Filipino artists to work with and guide me in producing and telling an epic dance theatre story of the past and present, of social realism from a colonized society faced with the journeys, struggles, fights, fears and conditions of a colonized life.

Colonial is inspired and will be sourced from Pasyon and Revolution (Passion and Revolution): Popular Movements in the Philippines, 1840-1910 by Filipino author, Reynaldo Clemencia. A book that gives detailed insights on how a peasant movement came to the fore as a dissident force in fighting Spanish and American colonial powers using jokes, songs, bodily movements, chants, prayers and agimat or anting-anting (amulet or charm). With the assistance of Filipino theatre director, Dennis D. Gupa, we will work side by side to construct Colonial as a dance theatre piece, an interdisciplinary and intercontinental project between Canada and Philippines that will evolve in three phases of research, creation and production between 2011 and 2013.

Colonial will glean from the physical and spiritual, in humans and books, invisible and visible, imagined and reality, from paper to textiles, stones to spears from the depth of Filipino life and souls. Colonial will attempt to tell the stories, both real and mythological to inquire and redress a critical examination of colonialism to society and individuals.

Co.ERASGA's mandate and core values through dance is to depict and utilize art as a vehicle to bring light to social reflection and this new work, Colonial, will be no exception empowering and redressing social issues for awareness. My dance works have provided expression to cross-cultural investigations that continues to define and defy the relation of my dance to society.

In Colonial, I hope to deepen my relation working solely for the first time with Filipino artists that have remained still in a colonized land while dedicating their creativity and livelihood for the betterment of its society; they have empowered pure Asian core values, resurrecting ancestral ways and beliefs, breaking away from the boundaries and structure of power and dominations.

It is in these important, respected and highest principles, values and passionate relations why Colonial signifies my need to create the work at this time. More than ever, these are reflective times for me to inquire and look at our roots, as globalization expands, migration grows and people embark to new territories.

Sam and Steve are back from Everest! Come Celebrate With Us!
    Event on 2012-07-08 18:00:00

On May 19th, in one of the deadliest years on record, Steve Curtis and Sam Wyatt successfully summited the tallest mountain in the world and made it back alive.  Now for the first time in public, they will share the details of their harrowing Journey with friends, family, and the public.

On July 8th, come celebrate and welcome them home! This will be a night to remember – with great food, drinks and sharing at Canvas Lounge in Gastown Vancouver. This event is to raise financial support for at risk youth and to inspire ALL ages, so bring the family! Sam and Steve will share the details of their amazing experience with photos, videos, and on the edge of your seat stories.  They will trace their steps from the original dream, through planning and training, to the actual climb and the journey through the death zone and back.

Sam and Steve will share the lessons they learned and the importance of dreams, discipline, planning, and living life in service to others. They will also include excerpts from their video diaries expressing their emotions in real time, including experiencing the death of a fellow climber, walking through bodies to the summit, and what it feels like to be on the top of the world.

Whether you’re a hardcore climber or have never hiked a day in your life, this will be a night not to miss.  In their real life ‘Into Thin Air’ story, Steve and Sam will share gripping details of their personal experiences climbing Lobuche and Everest not yet shared in the more than 25 press articles they have been in since their return.

Continuing their mission for this climb of raising 0,000 for the expansion of Take A Hike (a local charity in which Steve is highly involved) tickets will be , or 0 per family with dollars and per ticket respectively going directly to Take A Hike. About Adventure 2 Advance, and how you can help

Adventure 2 Advance was launched in 2009 by Vancouver entrepreneur Steve Curtis as a platform to turn treks into marketing and media draws to benefit the Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation (TAH), a local charity and adventure learning program for at-risk teens in grades 10 to 12 in an alternative school.

In 2009, Steve flew to Argentina to climb Mount Aconcagua along with Luc Martin and Melissa Cepelinski, and together they were able to raise ,000 for TAH through donations, auction items, and a send-off and welcome-back party.

In 2012, Steve's relentless thirst for adventure took him to Mount Everest. Together with Sam Wyatt, they embarked on a two-month journey that led them to the summit on May 19th and a flurry of media attention, including features on CNN,CTVGlobal NewsThe Province, and a full page in Metro.

Combined, Steve's 2009 and 2012 expeditions have been able to raise ,000 of his 0,000 fundraising goal, which will allow him to help TAH scale and expand into other much-needed communities.

With your support, whether that be through a donation or simply by attending his lively welcome-home party, we can help significantly impact the lives of youth in need.

    Hope to see you there!

RangiChangi Roots Presents: “Waking the Green Tiger”
    Event on 2012-07-07 14:30:00

"Waking the Green Tiger" is a documentary about the negative social and environmental effects of the Three Gorges Dam in China’s Yangtze River, namely the displacement of farmers and the disruption of ecosystems. It also provides insight and commentary on the tension between industrial development and environmental protection, as exhibited by Mao’s campaigns during the Great Leap Forward.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the film’s producer Gary Marcuse and other local leaders who work within the intersection of sustainability and cultural diversity.  Gary Marcuse is an independent journalist and filmmaker based in Vancouver, Canada.  With background in environmental planning and fine arts, he has written and directed several films about the emergence of environmental movements around the world. He is a former programming executive for CBC Television in Vancouver (2004-2008) and the former Chair of the Documentary Organization of Canada.

    Event on 2012-07-19 00:00:00
The BC Renaissance Festival (BCRF), the only Renaissance festival in B.C. is returning for its fifth year this summer to the Thunderbird Show Park (24550 72nd Ave Langley, BC). A member of Tourism Langley, this year's performance features a return of your favourite characters as well as some new faces, as well as an extra half day to experience the revelry. The story picks up in the year 1512 as we return once more to the village of Steller's Grove. The Jade Dragon crew once again find themselves in hot water as they have to answer to a king they did not expect to see. Featuring King Henry VIII of England and Catherine of Aragon as well as a multicultural crew of pirates (headed by our very own female pirate Charity) this year's story is one to capture the imagination of young and old.

Dr. Donna Lang is a neuroimaging researcher, from UBC and the Centre for Complex Disorders, studying physiological, biochemical, and physical markers in the brain to understand the neurocircuitry underlying psychotic disorders.  Diffusion tensor imaging and spectroscopy studies inform her work. Dr. Lang began her first forays into brain research in animal models of hippocampal injuries in rats, as an undergraduate student in botany and biopsychology. As a graduate student, Dr. Lang pursued research into the much needed area of neuroimaging and schizophrenia. Dr. Lang continued focusing her attention on the neuroimaging of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders through her post-doctoral training as a Michael Smith Fellow with Dr. Alex Mackay in the Department of Radiology, where she has remained ensconced as an Assistant Professor. After 17 years, she remains dedicated to research in this area. Her upcoming talk will review the structural deficits in schizophrenia, the impact of antipsychotic medication on brain morphology, and physical exercise as a novel approach to ameliorating the structural and functional impairments associated with psychosis.

Hitting all the right notes with fans and peers alike, Russian sensation ARTY is the darling of the EDM world. An emerging titan in the studio and simply electrifying in the booth, support comes from all possible corners – Armin Van Buuren, Skrillex, Avicii, Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Axwell, SHM, Dirty South, Porter Robinson and more join the plethora of press touting ARTY as one of the biggest rising stars of recent years.

From broadcasting behemoths MTV and Sirius XM and music bible Rolling Stone through to influential tastemakers Dancing Astronaut and beyond, watch ARTY build on this in 2012 as he continues to forge his path and takes his place amongst the dance music elite.

The gifted youngster first lit up airwaves and dance floors back in 2009 with tracks such as ‘Gentle Touch’, ‘Get On’ and ‘Flip Flop’. Quickly snapped up by the legendary Anjunabeats imprint, his relationship with the team behind Above & Beyond has only gone from strength to strength over the last three years. Explosive anthems have proved to be the norm for Arty; ‘Kate’, ‘Around The World’, the Axtone-signed ‘Trio’ and the explosive Mat Zo collaboration ‘Mozart’ being the mere tip of a rapidly expanding musical iceberg. Consistently featured in the sets of the world’s biggest artists and on its most far-reaching radio stations, it came as no surprise then that 2011’s DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Poll saw ARTY soar a staggering 50+ places to claim the #25 spot.

It’s not just his continual onslaught of production work that sealed the deal for the army of ARTY fans who put their money where their mouth is and delivered votes in their droves. Whether it’s deep in the darkened, thundering bosom of clubland or in front of tens of thousands on the laser-lit stages of Ultra Music Festival, Identity Festival, Electric Zoo Festival, Fallout Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and more, his spell-binding sets have cemented his status as one of the most sought after artists anywhere. From the US and Canada through to South America, across the seas to the shores of Europe, Asia and beyond to Australia, this hot talent has grabbed the attention of both the new EDM generation and those more seasoned veterans of the dance arena. The chant seized on by fans says it all; there is “no party without ARTY”.

And the success continues across the board. In June 2012, ARTY announced the beginning of a new partnership with Stateside radio giant Sirius XM. Joining the elite ranks of DJs to have hosted exclusive shows on the network, ARTY’s ‘Together We Are’ will beam directly into the ears of a waiting America. ‘Open Space’, released on Anjunabeats in June, scored huge radio play and an overwhelming tidal wave of support from the likes of David Guetta, Axwell, Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Hardwell, Thomas Gold, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, Kaskade, Max Vangeli and more. As ARTY’s profile continues to grow, as more and more tune in to his sound, the only question is how far and how high this young talented artist can go.

Sometimes it's hard to fit people into boxes, and the music being produced by The Rosie Burgess Trio is no exception. Sliding from folk to blues to gypsy-roots and back, the trio cross more genres than state borders, giving off "more energy than an illegally sparked firecracker" [Drum Media, Sydney], whilst still maintaining their unmistakable flavour. And cross borders they do. Living primarily in airports and touring vans, the trio have been crisscrossing the world for the last three years, leaving behind them a trail of lost sunglasses, broken flip-flops and adoring audiences. Hailing from Melbourne, the trio bring their unique brand of folkroots to centre stage in a collection of catchy harmonies and off-beat humour. After an incredible couple of years of touring, the Rosie Burgess Trio have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some of the world's finest artists. Highlight performances at festivals including Woodford Folk Festival (QLD), Port Fairy Folk Festival (VIC), California Worldfest (CA), and Musikfest (PA) have seen the trio firmly secure a place for themselves as festival favourites, both in Australia and North America. With the release of the bands new album, The Rosie Burgess Trio have, yet again, raised the bar and are set to explode on the international stage. www.rosieburgess.com/

Cedric Gervais has had an extraordinary life. As a young teenager, Cedric, who is originally from Marseilles, headed to St Tropez. There he got a summer residency at the famed Papa Gaio club. He was only 14 years old, not even legally old enough to party with the people he played for. This quickly turned into a residency at Paris’ Queen club. Knowing the only path for him was music, Cedric pleaded with his father to take him out of school so he could concentrate on DJing. His father agreed, and, as is customary in France, went to the local courts to put Cedric’s case forward. Then at just 15 years old and not speaking any English he decided Paris wasn’t challenging him enough musically so he packed up and moved to Miami. This was at a time when an exciting movement within the club scene was happening in Miami; Big clubs were opening, the power of residencies were becoming ever more evident, Cedric saw this opportunity and jumped in.

He secured residencies at the best clubs and parties Miami had to offer – Living Room, Nikki Beach, Crobar and Space. During this time it wasn’t just his DJing that excelled but his studio output too. His first big break came in the form of ‘Spirit of my Life’ in 2006; Pete Tong made it an Essential New Tune on his BBC Radio 1 show. Cedric followed with a string of high profile remixes for the likes of Dubfire and more ‘Essential New Tunes’ followed – namely in the form of 2009’s ‘Mauri’s Dream’ and most recently ‘Molly’, of which Madonna is a fan, more on that later.

Two of Cedric’s most high profile club-residencies have been at Liv in Miami and Marquee in Las Vegas. Both of which are now home to his very own SHITSHOW!!! Parties. These events started at Liv and have grown to become a next-level clubbing experience. The ethos is simple, the production and level of effort put into making these parties happen is anything but. Put simply, anything goes at the SHITSHOW!!! events, there is no judgment or rules, only crazy clothes, lights, décor and one of the most up-for-it crowds found in any club globally. Cedric plays all night and the success of these events has meant its expanded from its original home in Miami to incorporate parties in Las Vegas at Marquee…and who knows where it will head this year…

So onto 2012 and Cedric’s latest smash looks set to be his biggest yet. ‘Molly’ is a love story about a girl in the form of a club-smash. Madonna announced the track on stage at Ultra Festival in front of 20,000 people and Pete Tong loved it so much he played it 3 times in a row on air. This is also the first track in a long time to really be the ‘stand-out’ record of WMC week in Miami. The track is getting more and more attention with top radio play and club spins each week. Whilst Cedric himself is busy considering offers from Hollywood movie directors, touring the planet with ‘Molly’, preparing for his next big SHITSHOW!!! parties and planning one-epic summer season of gigs.
