Iron Maiden – Maiden England North American Tour 2012

Iron Maiden – Maiden England North American Tour 2012
Event on 2012-07-29 00:00:00
The Maiden England North American Tour 2012 is coming to Vancouver!
Come out and experience the third chapter in the History of Maiden tours.

featuring guests Coheed and Cambria.

The MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, the original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour". This opening section of the World Tour is the band's most extensive visit to North America for many years

MAIDEN ENGLAND marks the third chapter in the History of Iron Maiden, a journey which began in 2004 with The Early Days DVD and subsequent 2005 Early Days Tour. Part Two followed in 2008 with the Live After Death DVD – the seminal 1984 concert recorded at Long Beach Arena (L.A) during the World Slavery Tour – and the band embarking on their groundbreaking Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008/9, which saw them play to over two million fans in almost 40 countries.

Tickets on sale March 2nd via Ticketmaster.

Where possible the North American Iron Maiden shows will operate a paperless ticket policy. Select tickets will be sold via Ticketmaster's Paperless Ticket delivery, which means fans will not receive a physical concert ticket for their entry into the event. Buying paperless helps ensure fans have secure and convenient access to event tickets at the intended original sale price. On the day of show, concert goers just need to bring the credit card they used for the ticket purchase and a government-issued photo ID to the concert. All members of the ticket purchaser's party must be present at the same time to enter the venue. The venue's ticket usher will swipe their credit card upon entry and present each person in their party with seat locator slips for quick access into the show. To purchase paperless tickets or for more information, fans should visit www.ticketmaster.com/paperless

Tickets purchased at Retail Outlets will not be paperless.

The Vancouver Chopin Society presents Wojciech Switala

The Vancouver Chopin Society presents Wojciech Switala
Event on 2012-10-06 00:00:00
Concert 1 Wojciech Switala
Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 7:30 pm
Magee Theatre

When Polish pianist Wojciech Switala made his Vancouver debut in 2007, Lloyd Dykk wrote in the Vancouver Sun:

"He especially shone in the Chopin half, beginning with two nocturnes,…. Switala put the slightest clues of menace into his languorous, sensuous beginning and then the keyboard suddenly erupted into tigerish, racing octaves."

His recital here was a true revelation for those who attended, but it came as no surprise as he belongs to the international elite of outstanding Chopin interpreters, so we welcome his return to this special season celebrating the 15th anniversary of our
Society. Wojciech Switala's 2 CDs: Waltzes and Other Works and Rondos, Allegro de Concert, recorded for the National Edition, won the Grand Prix du Disque Frederic Chopin award in 2000 and 2005 respectively. The only other pianist who won this award twice was Murray Perahia. Few people know that he was close to winning the 12th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1990, having highest scores on the board but he walked out of the semi-final round. He won the prize for best performance of a Polonaise.

Wojciech Świtała has given concerts in most European countries, Argentina, the United States and Canada.

The Union and Timbre Concerts Present:

YELAWOLF

Friday, August 3, 2012

Doors: 8:00pm
Show: 9:00pm

For as volatile as it sounds, the actual dictionary term for “radioactive” leaves a lot to the imagination. But just as he does with every word he spits, Ghet-O-Vision/Shady recording artist Yelawolf gives it new life and meaning. Making it a fitting title for his official debut album.

Though he’s been releasing material since the early 2000’s, Radioactive qualifies as Yelawolf’s official “debut.” Unlike his prior efforts that were recorded in basements and garages, only to be appreciated by his first core of loyal fans, this album was captured amidst rigorous touring, growing anticipation and now, expectation. If his ability to survive the last ten years are any indication, Wolf will rise to the occasion and beyond.

Event on 2012-10-23 20:15:00
Presented by the Vancouver Recital Society as part of the Great Performances Series at the Chan Centre.

Delving into music with passionate spontaneity and heart-wrenching intimacy, Paul Lewis has scaled the heights to sit among the legendary interpreters of Beethoven and Schubert. With luminosity, clarity and poetic insight, Lewis reveals Schubert’s heart-stopping emotional world, where the simplest things seem most profound.

From the New York Times:"‘When Schubert wants to tell you something important,” Paul Lewis says, “he will usually lower his voice rather than raise it — he draws you into the message, rather than projects it out to you.’

Rock 101 & The Georgia Straight Present

54-40

54-40 is one of the most important popular music groups to emerge from the Canadian cultural landscape. Celebrating their thirty-year anniversary – a remarkable achievement in itself – the band has an unbelievable catalogue of hit songs, including "Baby Ran", "I Go Blind" and "Ocean Pearl". Lead by chief songwriter Neil Osborne, 54-40 have carved out a legacy of gold and platinum albums and a outstanding reputation for their live performances that carries through to this day. The secret to their longevity is their ability to redefine and reinvent themselves, taking longtime fans on a ride that is bound to pick up new young fans on the way. To experience 54-40 in concert is to experience how songs have touched and continue to touch people's lives: each show is an extraordinary affair that bridges the gaps of generations through a shared love of music. "A band has to evolve with its audience to keep their interest,” explains bassist Brad Merritt. “We make records based on where we're at, at that time. So it's kind of like a time capsule."
